laundry day

I've been delving through the massive collection that is flickr, and some days, ah, some days I find what it is I've been searching for. Lovely, mysterious images by people whose thrill for making them is more keen than those allowed to view them. All those journalists trying to travel here and there to make images that somehow "reveal" a place, and the truth is that nothing is more beautiful than the simplicity of laundry day. Titled simply, 'laundry day,' this image says what so many reportage images cannot. It's about being there, LIVING it, and noticing the beauty in the things everyday, even if it occurs just steps from your door. I'll always maintain that this is the best way to make images. Flickr seems proof of this.

Click the image (or any image on my blog) to take you straight to the flickr source. I love combining disparate photos from flickr accounts, those of amateurs to professionals, to see the images differently. Ah, the modest thrill of seeing through others' eyes.

  1. This picture is absolutely beautiful. At first sight yes, the bright colors and the how they contrast with the fluffy white clouds makes it easy on the eyes. But there is so much more beauty than what you see on the outside. As you stated the beauty in this picture truly come from the beauty of everyday life. These people are simply doing laundry yet it almost looks as if they have created a work of art. So often we find ourselves trying to create beauty, make beautiful things and even define beauty. But what we forget and take for granted is all the beauty right in front of us, and I feel that this picture is really a strong reminder of just that.
